Patna: Police in Bihar’s Vaishali district arrested a man on Saturday for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl. The accused, identified as Lalbabu Ram (40), is a neighbor of the victim.

Kumari Durga Shakti, the State Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) for the Mahua range, confirmed the arrest, stating, “We are taking legal action against the accused. An FIR has been filed under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act (for kidnapping and rape) at the Baligaon police station. The accused was arrested within 24 hours of the crime.”

SDPO Shakti added that the police investigated the crime scene, and a Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) team collected evidence. A medical examination of the victim confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted.

The incident occurred when the girl was walking to a nearby shop with Rs 10 to buy biscuits. The accused reportedly lured her and abducted her, taking her to a cornfield where he raped her. He also stole the child’s mobile phone and disposed of it.

Investigations revealed that Lalbabu Ram had previously been involved in two similar rape cases, which were resolved outside the legal system. However, this time, the case was formally reported, prompting swift police action.

The accused is currently being interrogated, and authorities are expanding their investigation to uncover any additional complaints against him.

In a related case, on February 27, a gang rape occurred involving a 14-year-old girl in Vaishali, resulting in the arrest of three people, including a woman. The accused woman, Pakija Khatun alias Phullo, allegedly lured the girl and handed her over to two youths. The victim’s father filed a complaint on March 1, leading to the identification of the suspects, Pintu Kumar and Chotu Kumar, who were charged under the POCSO Act.
