Bhopal: In Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, a 51-year-old man died of a heart attack after his eight-year-old son became trapped in an elevator due to a sudden power outage, police reported. The incident occurred in the Jatkhedi area under Misrod police station’s jurisdiction on the night of May 26. The man, Rishiraj Bhatnagar, resided on the third floor of an apartment with his wife and two sons.
That night, Rishiraj went downstairs and saw his younger son there. He asked the child to go home, and the boy took the elevator. Shortly afterward, a power failure caused the elevator to halt. The man, worried about his son being stuck, experienced a panic attack and lost consciousness. The building’s power was quickly restored within a few minutes, and the child came out of the elevator safely.
Misrod police station in-charge Manish Raj Singh Bhadauriya stated that they received information from a private hospital that Rishiraj Bhatnagar had been brought in and declared dead. A case has been registered, and an investigation is underway. During the inquiry, it was revealed that around 10:30 p.m., Rishiraj had asked his son to return home, and the boy was using the elevator when the power cut occurred. His concern for his son’s safety triggered the panic attack.
He was immediately taken to the hospital by local residents, where he was pronounced dead. Initial investigations suggest a heart attack as the cause of death, but the final cause will be confirmed after the post-mortem report. Regarding the child, the officer said he is unharmed and in good health. The elevator was halted due to the power outage, but power was restored within two to three minutes, allowing the child to exit safely.
