Patna: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has successfully conducted a major operation in Muzaffarpur, Bihar, leading to the arrest of an individual and the seizure of 2 kilograms of morphine on Saturday.
The street value of the confiscated morphine is estimated to be around Rs 5 crore in the international market. The operation was led by NCB Zonal Director Abhishek Anand, who reported that the morphine had been smuggled into Bihar from Myanmar. Acting on credible intelligence regarding the arrival of the illegal substance, a special team was formed to intercept the suspect at Muzaffarpur station.
“We received information about a high-value drug being transported from Myanmar to Muzaffarpur. Based on this tip-off, our team was deployed, and the suspect was apprehended,” Anand stated.
The suspect is currently being interrogated as the NCB investigates the supply chain and seeks to identify other traffickers involved in the operation. “We are questioning the accused to trace the origin of the substance and its intended recipients. Additional arrests are expected based on his information,” Anand added.
The morphine seized is known for its pain-relieving properties and ability to induce deep sleep. While it can be taken orally, its effects are more immediate and intense when injected. Although it can provide temporary relief from pain and reduce associated anxiety and stress, the substance is often misused and poses significant risks. Anand cautioned that misuse can lead to serious physical and psychological side effects, and prolonged abuse can be harmful and addictive if not used under medical supervision.
The NCB stresses the importance of combating such substances to prevent misuse and protect public health. This operation highlights the NCB’s dedication to fighting drug trafficking and safeguarding communities from the dangers of narcotics.
