Imphal: Manipur Police have arrested six militants from various insurgent groups and seized a large quantity of arms and ammunition, as well as drugs worth Rs 3.15 crore, according to official sources.

Two members of the banned People’s Liberation Army (PLA) were apprehended in Imphal West district on Wednesday night, while two more militants from the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) (Pro) and one from the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) were arrested in Imphal East. Additionally, a member of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF-K), led by Koireng, was arrested in Tengnoupal district. The arrested militants were reportedly involved in abductions, extortion from traders, officials, and contractors, as well as issuing threats.

Authorities also seized various items from the militants, including mobile phones, sharp-edged weapons, documents, and other materials.

In a separate operation, police arrested three drug traffickers in Imphal East district and confiscated 10.5 kg of heroin, worth Rs 3.15 crore. The drugs, suspected to have been smuggled from Myanmar, were hidden in 880 soap cases. The car carrying the smugglers was also seized. Manipur shares a 400 km unfenced border with Myanmar, which has contributed to the region’s drug smuggling issues.

Additionally, the police recovered a stockpile of arms and ammunition, including AK series rifles and Self-Loading Rifles, from Imphal East and Kakching districts. Earlier on Wednesday, five militants were arrested, and more arms and ammunition were seized in the region.

On Tuesday night, three drug traffickers were arrested on National Highway-02 (connecting Imphal and Senapati), and police seized 5.5 kg of heroin worth Rs 2 crore from their possession.
