Manipur Police seize arms, explosives in ongoing security operations

Imphal: In a series of search operations across Manipur, police have recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and military-grade equipment. These items were seized during security force operations on March 7, 2025, across several districts, including Imphal East, Jiribam, Ukhrul, and Tengnoupal. The operations were conducted by security forces to target vulnerable areas.

Imphal: In a series of search operations across Manipur, police have recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, explosives, and military-grade equipment. These items were seized during security force operations on March 7, 2025, across several districts, including Imphal East, Jiribam, Ukhrul, and Tengnoupal. The operations were conducted by security forces to target vulnerable areas in both hill and valley districts.

According to a press release from the Manipur Police, the search operations resulted in the recovery of various military-grade equipment. From Sekmaijin Hangul in Kakching District, authorities seized one SMG carbine with an empty magazine, a bolt-action rifle, a modified .303 rifle, a locally made single-barrel rifle, and a .22 rifle. Additionally, two revolver cartridge boxes containing 12 live rounds each, five Indian-made .36 HE grenades, a walkie-talkie, one Chinese grenade, one MK 2 grenade, one tube-launching IA, 14 tear gas shells, one anti-riot 38mm cartridge (rubber bullets), one chilli smoke shell, one stun shell, one bulletproof helmet, two rice bags, and four black polythene sheets were also found.

In Ukhrul District, police recovered two 81mm and two 51mm country-made Pumpi motors, as well as two country-made motor bombs. Also seized were nine INSAS empty cases, seven SLR empty cases, two SBBL empty cases, eight meters of cortex wire, one unserviceable Baofeng set, and a telescopic sight with cover from the general area of Thawai Kuki village.

Further investigations led to more recoveries in Jiribam District, where police seized three 12-bore pump-action shotguns, one 12-bore SBBL, 132 live 12-bore cartridges, 12 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, two barrel cleaning rods, one monocular (Celestron), 27 bulletproof jackets, one BP plate, three helmets, three pairs of jungle boots, five Baofeng handsets, and three handset chargers from Bidyanagar.

In Imphal East District, a significant haul was made in Chingkhei Ching, where police seized one INSAS rifle magazine, 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, five .303 rounds, four 32 HE hand grenades (without detonators), one detonator fuse, one detonator, one RPG shell, one 2″ mortar shell, 11 bulletproof jackets without plates, nine BP plates, one green ammunition box, and three materials suspected to be explosives.

In Tengnoupal District, from the general area of Senam, police recovered one INSAS Ex Calibre folding butt with a magazine, one 9mm carbine with a magazine, one carbine with a magazine, one FGC9 mm rifle with a magazine, two locally made 9mm pistols with magazines, four locally made long-range improvised mortars, four bulletproof jackets, two 36mm hand grenades, two Motorola RS handsets, 10 live 9mm rounds, 54 live 5.56mm INSAS rounds, 16 7.62mm AK live rounds, 30 fired 5.56mm INSAS cases, two 51mm mortar HE bombs, and two tube-launching devices.

The police are continuing their investigation into the recovered materials, with further operations expected in the coming days.
