New Delhi: Pawan Bansal, a former Union Minister, expressed deep condolences for the late Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister, who passed away on Thursday night. In his tribute, Bansal emphasized Dr. Singh’s significant impact across various sectors, stating, “There is no area where Dr. Manmohan Singh did not leave his mark.”

Bansal praised Dr. Singh for his visionary policies that revived India’s economy during a crisis and for initiatives like the Right to Information Act that empowered citizens. He described Singh as a “son of India,” whose leadership brought about transformative changes.

Reflecting on Dr. Singh’s accomplishments, Bansal noted his crucial role as Finance Minister in 1991, where he implemented landmark economic reforms that opened India to global markets. As Prime Minister, Singh introduced important social legislation, including the Right to Education Act and the Food Security Act, and took measures to support farmers, such as waiving loans and providing free food grains. He also played a key role in the historic Indo-US nuclear deal, enhancing India’s energy security.

Bansal highlighted Dr. Singh’s effective leadership during crises, noting that India managed the 2008 global economic recession well due to the strong economic foundation he established. He also recalled Singh’s commitment to financial inclusion, ensuring that banking services reached the masses even before the digital age.

Describing Dr. Singh as a leader who preferred action over words, Bansal stated, “He spoke less and worked more, always focused on advancing the country.” He concluded by saying that the nation mourns the loss of a great leader and visionary who dedicated his life to India’s growth and prosperity.
