Mizoram: Assam Rifles recover heroin worth Rs 40 lakhs from Lunglei; 2 held

Lunglei (Mizoram): On Saturday, the Assam Rifles arrested two individuals in Mizoram’s Lunglei district, seizing 57.69 grams of heroin valued at Rs 40.38 lakh, according to an official statement.

The operation, conducted in collaboration with the Excise and Narcotics Department, took place in Lunglei town based on actionable intelligence. The joint team intercepted a scooter and recovered the drugs.

The arrested suspects are K Lalrinchhana, 28, from Salem village, and Vanlalruati, 23, from Ramthar village, both in the Lunglei district. The drugs and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to the Excise and Narcotics Department in Lunglei for further investigation and legal proceedings.

In a separate incident earlier on Saturday, the Assam Rifles and Customs Department seized 2,286.9 kg of marijuana in the Vijayanagar area of West Tripura district. This operation was also based on specific intelligence and led to the arrest of two individuals, with the contraband valued at approximately Rs 10.29 crores in the international market.

As part of ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities in border regions and enhance national security, the Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Customs Preventive Force in Champhai, recently seized counterfeit cigarettes worth Rs 42.5 lakh in Chhungte, Mizoram. Acting on specific intelligence, security forces conducted a patrol towards Ruantlang on February 22 and found 1,250 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes concealed in a jungle. The seized items were subsequently handed over to Customs authorities for further investigation.
