Guntur (Andhra Pradesh): Voting for the Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) elections in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh commenced on Thursday, with polls open from 8 AM to 4 PM. The counting of ballots is scheduled for March 3.

Alapati Rajendra Prasad, a former minister and MLC candidate for the Guntur and Krishna districts, cast his vote at the Government Women’s Polytechnic College in Gujjanagundla, Guntur. In an interview with ANI, Prasad stated that voters at 483 booths across 33 constituencies were showing strong support for the NDA government. He highlighted that the state’s future relied on the NDA’s leadership, noting the difficulties people faced under the previous administration.

“The public has suffered under the former government, which is why they are now backing the NDA and its leadership,” he remarked.

K.S. Lakshmana Rao, the candidate from the PDF party, also participated in the voting. The primary contest is between Prasad, the alliance candidate, and Rao, despite a total of 25 candidates contesting the election.

In Guntur district, there were 483 polling centers established, with 144 designated as sensitive areas. Overall, 347,116 voters exercised their right to vote.

Earlier this week, on Tuesday, Daggubati Purandeswari, the BJP state president and MP, urged voters to support Alapati Rajendra Prasad for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council election. In a video shared by BJP Andhra Pradesh on their official social media platform, Purandeswari emphasized that Alapati Rajendra Prasad is the alliance’s candidate for the Krishna and Guntur district graduates’ constituency, encouraging voters to prioritize him.

She described Prasad as an experienced leader capable of voicing the concerns of graduates and employees in the assembly to address their needs. Purandeswari criticized the previous government for failing to deliver on its promises to unemployed youth but praised the current alliance government for prioritizing employment opportunities. She urged graduates to vote for Prasad to secure their rights.
