Bhilwara (Rajasthan): Tensions grew in Rajasthan’s Bhilwara district after a man was allegedly lynched by a mob following a dispute in a market, police reported on Saturday. The main suspect in the case, Shareef Mohammad, has been detained, and another individual has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred on Friday evening in Jahazpur town, where locals shut down the market to demand justice and compensation. The victim’s family and supporters protested overnight outside the local hospital in Jahazpur, calling for the immediate arrest of the accused.

Local MLA Gopichand Meena joined the protest on Saturday morning, meeting with the grieving relatives and residents gathered outside the hospital, where the body of Sitaram Keer was kept.

According to authorities, Sitaram, a resident of Tonk district, was traveling with three friends—Sikandar, Dilkhush, and Deepak—to attend a family event in Jahazpur. As they left the market, their car collided with Shareef’s handcart, sparking an argument. The altercation quickly turned violent as around 20 people gathered and began assaulting the group. Despite Sitaram apologizing and offering to pay for damages, he was forcibly taken from the vehicle and beaten badly.

Transported to the hospital on a motorcycle due to the damage to their car, Sitaram was declared dead on arrival. Bhilwara SP Dharmendra Singh stated that a murder case has been registered at Jahazpur police station, with one suspect in custody and Shareef, the main accused, arrested late Friday night. A total of 16 individuals have been named in the FIR, along with 20 unidentified others.

Deputy SP Narendra Kumar Pareek confirmed that multiple investigation teams are working on the case and that police personnel from 10 stations are deployed in the town to ensure law and order. He also assured that the situation is currently under control and being monitored by authorities.
