Jabalpur: Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh successfully set up a green corridor to facilitate the transportation of two kidneys harvested from a brain-dead donor. The kidneys were transported to Bombay Hospital in Indore, located 500 km away, and to Baderiya Metro Hospital in Jabalpur to provide life-saving transplants to recipients in need.

The donor, Puran Choudhary, suffered severe head injuries in a road accident and was admitted to Jabalpur Medical College. Despite treatment, he succumbed to his injuries. During surgery, doctors confirmed that Choudhary’s brain had died due to a severe stroke. Following this, the medical team spoke with Choudhary’s family, who consented to organ donation to help others.

Upon receiving the notification, Jabalpur District Collector Deepak Saxena ordered the creation of a green corridor to ensure the safe transport of the kidneys. Choudhary’s last rites were performed with state honors in his village.

Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla praised the collective efforts of the district administration, police, and medical team for setting an example of service. He also commended Choudhary’s family for their generosity in donating organs, which he hopes will inspire others to consider organ donation. Shukla, who also serves as the state’s Health Minister, acknowledged the efforts of the administration and medical staff for their exemplary service.

Earlier in January, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav announced that the state government would honor organ donors with state recognition, including posthumous awards on national holidays.
