Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh): A newly married couple from the Tribal community was found dead by hanging in their home under mysterious circumstances, police reported on Saturday. The incident took place late Friday in Budhar town, within the jurisdiction of Keshwahi police station, involving Bodhan Singh Gond (25) and his wife Urmila Singh Gond (21).
When police arrived late at night, they discovered the bodies of the couple hanging from the ceiling fan in their bedroom, with both using the same rope. The bodies were found with their necks tied together at both ends of a single rope, raising suspicion. The bodies were transported to Shahdol district hospital for post-mortem examination, and police formally registered a case to investigate the circumstances.
No suicide note was found at the scene. However, initial investigations revealed that Bodhan had borrowed money from a local moneylender for his marriage, which was solemnized in April 2024.
Further inquiries revealed that just before the incident, the couple had dinner with their parents, during which a heated argument reportedly took place over the borrowed money. Later, when Bodhan’s father called him from their bedroom, there was no response. After knocking and getting no reply, neighbors were alerted, and when a side window was broken, the couple was found lifeless hanging.
Police officials, including a forensic team, visited the scene on Saturday morning. The couple’s mobile phones were seized for forensic analysis. The bodies were handed over to their family for last rites, and investigations are ongoing.
Keshwahi police station in-charge Ashish Jharia stated that authorities have spoken with family members and are working to uncover the full story behind this tragic event.
