Chandigarh: Union Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi announced that the next round of meetings with farmer leaders will take place on February 22. He described the previous meeting as constructive, stating that the government listened to the farmers’ demands and informed them of the decisions made by the Modi administration in their favor.
“We had an encouraging meeting with the farmer leaders, who presented their demands, and we addressed all of them. We also updated them on the steps taken by the PM Modi-led government to support farmers. The upcoming meeting will be led by Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan,” Joshi told reporters.
This announcement follows a discussion with farmer leaders at the Khanauri border in Punjab, where they have been protesting. Joshi appealed to farm leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal, who is on a hunger strike, to reconsider and end his fast. “I requested Dallewal, on behalf of the Central government, to stop his hunger strike, and he mentioned that he would think it over,” Joshi said in a video.
Punjab Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian indicated that the next meeting is expected to be held in Chandigarh, noting that the Union Minister has attentively listened to the farmers’ concerns and appeared optimistic. Meanwhile, Punjab Minister Lal Chand Kataruchakk remarked on the positive nature of the discussions, expressing solidarity with the farmers due to the central government’s involvement. An appeal was also made for Dallewal to terminate his fast, with the understanding that he will consider doing so once their demands are addressed.
