New Delhi, July 12: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a tough step to prevent the misuse of FASTag. Now, drivers who show their Fastag in hand at the toll plaza without properly pasting it on the windscreen of the vehicle will be considered as ‘loose Fastag’ users and their Fastag will be blacklisted.
This rule has been implemented since July 11, 2025. NHAI has instructed toll collection agencies to immediately inform NHAI about such Fastags through a special email. After investigation, such Fastags will be blacklisted or hotlisted, causing them to stop working.
According to NHAI, some drivers deliberately avoid pasting the Fastag on the windscreen and get it scanned by showing it in hand, causing jams and delays at toll plazas. Apart from this, some people use one Fastag for multiple vehicles, which is illegal and creates disturbances in the system.
This move is part of the preparation for the Annual Pass System and Multi-Lane Free Flow (MLFF) tolling system to be introduced soon by NHAI, where the correct position and activation of the FASTag will be extremely important so that there is no hindrance in toll collection.
NHAI officials have appealed to all drivers to affix the FASTag correctly on the windscreen to make the journey smooth and hassle-free.
