Four Dead, Two critical after Nitrogen Gas Leak at Pharma Unit in Maharashtra

Palghar: Four workers died and two others were hospitalised in critical condition following a nitrogen gas leak at a pharmaceutical company in Maharashtra’s Palghar district on Thursday.

The incident occurred in the Tarapur-Boisar industrial area, about 130 km from Mumbai, at a unit of Medley Pharma, officials said. According to Vivekanand Kadam, chief of the Palghar district disaster management cell, the leak took place between 2.30 pm and 3 pm, exposing several staff members to the gas.

“Six workers were rushed to hospital, where four were declared dead around 6.15 pm,” Kadam confirmed. The remaining two are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit of a local hospital.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the leak, while industrial safety teams have been deployed to ensure the site has been secured.
