This rail link is considered a remarkable engineering achievement with few parallels globally and includes challenging segments, such as the bridge over the Chenab River in Ramban district, which is taller than the Eiffel Tower in Paris.

The Chenab Rail Bridge is a steel and concrete arch bridge that carries a single-track railway line between Bakkal and Kauri in the Reasi district of Jammu. Standing at 359 meters (1,178 feet) above the Chenab River, it is now the world’s highest rail and arch bridge, having been completed and inaugurated in August 2022.

The USBRL is anticipated to be transformative for millions in the landlocked Valley, significantly boosting tourism, trade, horticulture, and education while redefining travel to the Kashmir Valley.
