Mumbai: As the BJP’s Tiranga Yatra and similar opposition protests unfold nationwide, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader Amit Thackeray stated on Monday that, given India’s current ceasefire agreement with Pakistan, the nation should show restraint in celebrations honoring those who sacrificed their lives for the country.

In a heartfelt two-page letter, Amit Thackeray—son of MNS founder Raj Thackeray—appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, emphasizing the importance of refraining from celebrating victory at this moment as a true tribute to the fallen heroes. He urged that until the outcome of the ongoing conflict is clear, the country should exercise caution and respect.

He also highlighted that despite the ceasefire, trust in Pakistan remains fragile due to its past failures, and the government should prioritize informing and preparing citizens for potential war-like situations. Thackeray praised the Indian Army’s bravery, dedication, and sacrifice in ‘Operation Sindoor,’ noting that their heroism has won the nation’s admiration and that their work surpasses any form of celebration.

He emphasized that celebrating victory right now could cause emotional distress, especially as many families continue to mourn their martyred loved ones. Instead of jubilations, society should focus on honoring the soldiers’ sacrifices and supporting their families through long-term welfare measures.

Thackeray drew attention to recent threats and violence, such as the terrorist attack in Pahalgam and recent casualties on the India-Pakistan border, urging the country to stay alert and prepared rather than celebrate. He concluded by lauding the Prime Minister’s leadership and decisive actions related to national security, which have been critical for the nation’s safety.
