New Delhi: Air Marshal AK Bharti explained on Monday that Operation Sindoor’s aim was solely to target terrorists, not the Pakistani military or civilians. During a press briefing, he emphasized, “Our fight is with terrorists, not with the Pakistan military or Pakistani civilians. That is very clear. We are focused on our targets.”
He highlighted the effectiveness of the Indian Armed Forces, noting that their precise strikes demonstrated their capabilities. “Our counter systems and trained air defense personnel are fully capable. Our indigenous capabilities have proven their strength. We are prepared to counter any emerging technology. There’s no need for exaggerated words—you’ve seen the results with your own eyes,” he said.
Acknowledging the changing nature of modern warfare, the Air Marshal stated that future conflicts would be vastly different from previous ones. “This kind of warfare is inevitable. God forbid, if we fight another war, it will be entirely different. It’s a cat-and-mouse game, and we must stay ahead of the adversary,” he remarked.
When asked about reports of striking Kirana Hills, he responded, “Thank you for informing us that Kirana Hills may house a nuclear installation—however, we had no knowledge of that. We have not targeted Kirana Hills, and there’s nothing there.”
Operation Sindoor was launched on the early morning of May 7, targeting nine terrorist sites in Pakistan and Pakistani-occupied Kashmir (PoK). It was a retaliatory strike following the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.
On Saturday, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri confirmed that Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations contacted his Indian counterpart, and both sides agreed to cease all military activities—on land, sea, and air—from 5 pm. Instructions were given to enforce the ceasefire, with another DGMO-level meeting scheduled for May 12 at noon.
However, shortly after the ceasefire announcement, reports emerged of Pakistan violating the agreement, with Indian air defenses intercepting Pakistani drones amid a blackout in Srinagar. Explosions and red streaks were observed as Indian defenses responded in Udhampur, while blackout measures were also enforced in Pathankot, Ferozepur, Jaisalmer, and Barmer.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri condemned these violations, stating India takes them very seriously. India has urged Pakistan to address these breaches promptly and handle the situation responsibly.
