Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh has accused the BJP of orchestrating a planned conspiracy following a recent incident near the Parliament gate that resulted in a physical clash between ruling party MPs and opposition members.
Speaking to reporters after attending a condolence meeting for former Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Bharat Singh in Ratlam, Singh noted that while protests by the opposition on Parliament grounds are common, it was unprecedented for ruling party MPs to block opposition members’ access.
Singh, a second-term Rajya Sabha MP from Madhya Pradesh who participated in the December 19 protest, emphasized that the opposition has the right to express dissent against the government’s actions. He condemned Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments regarding Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and called for Shah to apologize and resign on moral grounds, alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is protecting him. Singh suggested that the chaos instigated by BJP MPs was a deliberate strategy to distract from pressing issues.
Additionally, Singh raised concerns about security measures at the new Parliament, questioning the actions of security officials during the altercation at Makar Gate, which he believes could have been prevented. He remarked on his extensive experience in both the State Assembly and Parliament, noting that he has never seen ruling party members protesting on the premises before.
The clash arose as NDA and opposition MPs held separate protests regarding Amit Shah’s remarks on Ambedkar, escalating into a physical confrontation that resulted in injuries. BJP MP Pratap Sarangi was hospitalized due to a forehead injury sustained during the scuffle, and the BJP accused Congress MP Rahul Gandhi of pushing another MP, which led to Sarangi’s injury—a claim that Congress denies. Another BJP MP, Mukesh Rajput, was also injured and required hospitalization.
In the aftermath, Rahul Gandhi is facing legal issues following a complaint lodged by BJP leader Hemang Joshi, who accused him of “physical assault and incitement” during the incident. The complaint was filed under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including those related to causing hurt and endangering safety.
