Uttarkashi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the winter seat of Maa Ganga in Mukhwa, Uttarakhand, on Thursday, where he offered prayers.
PM Modi was welcomed by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami at Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun and was accompanied by him to Mukhwa. The Prime Minister also took time to admire the stunning views of the snow-covered mountains in the area and greeted the locals.
CM Dhami emphasized that PM Modi’s visit is significant in establishing Mukhwa (also known as Mukhimath) as a global tourism destination while also enhancing the state’s cultural and religious heritage. He expressed pride in witnessing this historic visit and extended a warm welcome to the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Uttarakhand.
PM Modi is also scheduled to flag off a trek and bike rally and address the public at a function in Harsil. Ahead of his trip, the Prime Minister reiterated his government’s commitment to promoting tourism in the state to bolster its economy. He shared on social media, “We are committed to further strengthening the economy of the state by promoting tourism in Devbhoomi Uttarakhand. I will worship Maa Ganga in Mukhwa tomorrow morning and later interact with my family members in Harshil.”
PM Modi expressed excitement about visiting the Mukhwa temple, which is renowned worldwide for its spiritual significance and breathtaking beauty. He described it as a unique representation of the nation’s commitment to both heritage preservation and development.
The Uttarakhand government has launched a Winter Tourism initiative this year, which has already seen a significant number of devotees visiting the winter seats of Gangotri, Yamunotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. The program aims to boost religious tourism, support local economies, and promote homestays and tourism-related businesses.
