New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a State visit to Sri Lanka from April 4 to 6, during which several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between India and Sri Lanka are expected to be signed.

During his trip, PM Modi is scheduled to engage in bilateral discussions with Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Disanayaka and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya. According to a statement from Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, the Indian Prime Minister will visit Anuradhapura to pay tribute to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi tree and inaugurate several projects in Sri Lanka that have been supported by the Indian government.

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, and other senior Indian officials will accompany PM Modi on this visit.

After concluding his time in Sri Lanka, PM Modi will visit Thailand from April 3 to 4 to participate in the 6th BIMSTEC Summit, hosted by Thailand, the current chair of BIMSTEC. This trip marks PM Modi’s first visit to Sri Lanka since 2019, following the Sri Lankan President’s recent State Visit to India—his first international trip after taking office.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) highlighted that PM Modi’s engagements in Thailand and Sri Lanka, as well as his attendance at the BIMSTEC Summit, reinforce India’s dedication to its “Neighbourhood First” and “Act East” policies. The MEA also emphasized the strong cultural and historical ties between India and Sri Lanka, stating that this visit represents ongoing high-level interactions aimed at enhancing the multifaceted partnership between the two nations. Furthermore, it underscored India’s commitment to the “MAHASAGAR” vision (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and the Indo-Pacific strategy.
