Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the election-sensitive state of Jharkhand on Wednesday, former Chief Minister Champai Soren expressed notable enthusiasm among the residents to welcome him. This visit marks PM Modi’s second trip to Jharkhand in 17 days, following his earlier stop in Jamshedpur on September 15.

Soren emphasized the excitement in Jharkhand, stating, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is coming, and the people of this state are very enthusiastic. His visits contribute to the state’s development by introducing new beneficial schemes for the people of Jharkhand, and the excitement is palpable.”

According to party insiders, PM Modi will begin his visit with a meeting with the tribal community in Ranchi before proceeding to Gandhi Maidan in Hazaribagh for the closing ceremony of the BJP’s Parivartan Yatra. During his time in Jharkhand, the Prime Minister is set to initiate various projects valued at over Rs 83,300 crore around 2 pm in Hazaribagh.

To enhance educational infrastructure for tribal communities, he will inaugurate 40 Eklavya Model Residential Schools (EMRS) and lay the foundation for an additional 25 EMRS, with a total investment exceeding Rs 2,800 crore. The Prime Minister’s Office announced that this initiative will impact around 63,000 villages across 549 districts and 2,740 blocks in 30 states and Union Territories, directly benefiting over 5 crore tribal individuals. He will also launch the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan scheme, involving a total budget of over Rs 79,150 crore.

Jharkhand is anticipated to hold elections for its 81-member legislative assembly by December 2024, as the current government’s term concludes in January 2025, with the Election Commission yet to set a schedule. In the 2020 assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha secured 30 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party won 25, and the Congress gained 16 seats.
