Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party has been assigned the ‘school bag’ symbol by the Election Commission for the forthcoming by-elections in four assembly constituencies in Bihar, as announced by Sanjay Kumar Thakur, the party’s state chief spokesperson.

The Jan Suraaj Party plans to contest all four seats and has nominated Sushil Singh Kushwaha for Ramgarh, Kiran Devi for Tarari, Mohammad Amjad for Belaganj, and Jitendra Paswan for the Imamganj (reserved) constituency.

Thakur called on the public to support the Jan Suraaj Party by voting for the “school bag” symbol, expressing hope for “significant victories” for their candidates. He believes that this election symbol could resonate with voters, representing aspirations and progress, much like a school bag’s association with education and development.

With the allocation of the “school bag” symbol, Thakur views it as a “positive alignment” with Kishor’s vision, suggesting that it reinforces the campaign’s emphasis on education.

Kishor has been vocal about the need for a robust education system in Bihar, advocating for bolstered investment in education, particularly through funds sourced from the state’s liquor prohibition initiatives. His recent campaign efforts have focused on urging families to prioritize their children’s education.

Voting for the by-elections in Tarari, Ramgarh, Belaganj, and Imamganj is scheduled for November 13, with results to be declared on November 23. These bypolls were called following the resignations of the sitting MLAs — Sudama Prasad (Tarari), Sudhakar Singh (Ramgarh), Surendra Yadav (Belaganj), and Jitan Ram Manjhi (Imamganj) — who were elected as MPs in the recent 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
