New Delhi: Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge has expressed his discontent with the Central government’s economic policies, which he labels ‘Modinomics.’ He argues that these policies have resulted in soaring unemployment rates, the closure of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), and ongoing farmer protests. Kharge also criticized major government initiatives like Make in India, Skill India, and Digital India, claiming they have not produced meaningful outcomes.

He stated, “Personally, I have zero expectations from this budget,” reflecting on a decade of what he describes as Modiji’s ineffective strategies. He highlighted that these policies have led to the highest unemployment, the shutdown of SMEs and MSMEs, and farmers protesting outside Parliament, while start-ups have struggled, and initiatives like Make in India, Skill India, and Digital India remain unfulfilled.

Kharge also voiced his dissatisfaction with the Central government’s treatment of Karnataka, especially in light of the state’s support for the BJP. He accused the Centre of ignoring Karnataka’s interests regarding tax devolution and sharing. He noted, “What is the FDI right now, zero; just last month, over nine billion dollars were withdrawn… (Union Finance Minister) Nirmala Sitharaman, despite being elected by Karnataka voters twice, has shown no courtesy towards the state in terms of tax devolution or fair tax sharing, and we are suffering due to ‘Modinomics.'”

Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Union Budget 2025, marking her eighth consecutive budget presentation at 11 am in Lok Sabha today. She arrived at the North Block, which houses the Ministry of Finance, earlier this morning in preparation for the budget announcement. The budget speech will detail the government’s fiscal policies, revenue and expenditure plans, taxation reforms, and other key announcements. Meanwhile, the Economic Survey presented in Parliament on Friday projected India’s economy to grow between 6.3% and 6.8% in the upcoming financial year 2025-26.
