Almost thirty students from a school in Pune, Maharashtra, were hospitalized on Thursday due to suspected food poisoning, but all were discharged after receiving initial treatment, according to officials. The situation arose after the school served sandwiches for breakfast to about 350 students in grades 5 to 7.
Following the meal, some students began to vomit and showed signs of illness. Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar informed ANI that “all hospitalized students are in stable condition and are out of danger,” and noted that most had been discharged by the evening.
Dr. Dhananjay Patil from Chetna Hospital in Pimpri-Chinchwad reported that around 30 students were admitted for treatment by 3 PM on Thursday. Initially, 18 students were brought in at 1 PM, experiencing symptoms like dizziness, stomach pain, and vomiting. By 3 PM, the total number of admissions had reached 30, all of whom were discharged after receiving care. When questioned about the suspected cause of the food poisoning, Dr. Patil indicated that it might have stemmed from the sandwiches served at the school.
Earlier, on October 1, 38 students from Kalwa Sahyadri School in Thane, Maharashtra, also experienced food poisoning after consuming khichdi at school. These students were in the 5th and 6th grades.
