Pune: In Pimpri Chinchwad, two police officers, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Shivaji Pawar, were injured during an encounter with a known criminal early Monday morning around 1 am, as reported by the police.
Acting on a tip-off about the location of the absconding suspects, DCP Pawar from Zone 3 and his team set a trap in Chinchoshi village to apprehend Sachin Bhosale and Mithun Bhosale, who were wanted in connection with a dacoity and robbery case.
When the police approached to make the arrests, Sachin Bhosale attacked them with a machete, resulting in injuries to DCP Pawar and Assistant Police Inspector (API) Prasanna Jahad. In response, DCP Pawar fired two shots from his service weapon, hitting Sachin Bhosale in the leg, while Mithun Bhosale managed to flee the scene.
Both the injured officers and the suspect are currently receiving medical treatment at a hospital. A case has been filed at Chakan Police Station against the suspects under Sections 109, 132, and 121 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and applicable sections of the Arms Act.
DCP Shivaji Pawar is noted for his involvement in the initial investigation related to the Urban Naxal-linked Elgar Parishad, which was connected to the Koregaon Bhima violence on January 1, 2018. Ongoing investigations are continuing.
