Jaipur: A gas leak at the Chambal Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (CFCL) plant in Gadepan, within the Simaliya police station area, affected at least 16 students from a government school on Saturday.
The incident took place during the morning prayer assembly when a strong odor of gas spread throughout the school grounds. Many students suffered from breathing difficulties, with some fainting or vomiting, which sparked panic among both students and staff.
Local residents and school officials claimed the gas leak from the CFCL plant was behind the students’ health issues.
In response to the emergency, District Collector Dr. Ravindra Goswami, Rural SP Sujit Shankar, and Kota CMHO Dr. Narendra Nagar quickly arrived for assessment. A team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was also deployed for rescue and relief operations. Energy Minister Hiralal Nagar and Education Minister Madan Dilawar have instructed officials to carry out an investigation and report their findings.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla took note of the situation, urging the administration to ensure proper medical attention for those affected.
Officials confirmed that the 16 students who fainted received prompt medical care. Five were released after first aid, while five remained at the CFCL hospital, and six were transferred to JK Lone Hospital in Kota for additional treatment. Health checks were conducted for the remaining 200 students at the school.
Three teachers have been assigned to monitor the recovering students for the next three days, and two more have been stationed at JK Lone Hospital to support those admitted. The district administration is committed to providing all possible assistance to ensure their well-being.
Authorities assured that they are closely observing the situation and that a comprehensive investigation is underway. Strict action will follow if negligence on the company’s part is established.
State Education Minister Madan Dilawar expressed support for the affected students’ families, stating, “The education department is dedicated to assisting the parents. Our officials, including the District Education Officer, are making sure the children receive adequate care.” He added with relief, “It’s a blessing that all children are safe. I pray for their quick recovery and safe return home.”
This incident has triggered significant concern, and the government has committed to holding accountable any responsible parties and taking strict measures against negligence, he emphasized.
