Rajasthan CM announces special campaign to curb road accidents

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced a new initiative on Friday aimed at addressing road black spots in the state to reduce accidents. He stressed the need for urgent identification and repair of high-risk areas to lessen the impact of vehicle collisions on life and property. The Chief Minister directed the Public Works.

Jaipur: Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma announced a new initiative on Friday aimed at addressing road black spots in the state to reduce accidents. He stressed the need for urgent identification and repair of high-risk areas to lessen the impact of vehicle collisions on life and property.

The Chief Minister directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to focus on maintaining high-quality standards in all repair work during this campaign and to ensure timely completion. He noted that the state is investing around Rs 2,350 crore to improve these black spots and enhance overall road safety.

Sharma warned that strict measures would be taken against anyone who fails to meet the required standards in road construction and repairs.

Currently, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has identified 40 black spots in Rajasthan, with ongoing improvements costing Rs 812.64 crore. Of these, 13 spots have already been addressed, while work continues on the others.

NHAI plans to begin repairs on an additional 37 black spots, estimated to cost Rs 821.51 crore. In collaboration with the PWD, efforts are underway to tackle 176 black spots along national highways at a budget of approximately Rs 650 crore, with the PWD aiming to complete repairs on 117 identified spots by March 31, 2025. The Rajasthan State Highway Authority is also working on improving 30 black spots for Rs 21.72 crore, with a completion target of January 2025, and safety upgrades are being implemented on four major roads at a cost of Rs 20.34 crore.

Officials stated that this campaign reflects the state government’s dedication to enhancing road safety and reducing accidents through coordinated and comprehensive efforts.
