Jaipur: A convict currently held in Dausa jail, Rajasthan, allegedly made a death threat against Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma via phone, leading to an investigation into how he accessed a mobile device. The state home minister suggested that another jail officer might be involved in this incident. The accused, identified as Rinku/Ranwa, is already incarcerated for a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Following the traced call on Friday, police promptly arrested him.
Home Minister Jawahar Singh Bedham stated that Inspector General of Jail Vikram Singh has been tasked with investigating the matter. “The criminal, Rinku/Ranwa, threatened to kill CM Bhajanlal Sharma from Dausa jail using a mobile phone,” he told ANI. “The police acted swiftly and arrested him. We directed the Director General of Jail, who assigned the investigation to IG Vikram Singh… We need to find out how he got a phone,” he added.
Bedham noted that jail authorities had conducted an inspection of the cells just an hour before the incident. He expressed concerns that another jail officer might be implicated, and the police are currently looking into this possibility. “It appears that an officer inside the jail could be involved. We will take strict measures to prevent such occurrences in the future,” he stated.
This is not the first incident; in July of the previous year, the Rajasthan CM received another death threat from Shyalawas Jail in Dausa, where police later identified the perpetrator and recovered nine mobile phones from the facility. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Lalsot, Lokesh Sonwal, explained that Dausa SP Ranjita Sharma was alerted by higher officials in Jaipur about the threat, prompting verification efforts. A search was conducted in collaboration with jail authorities, leading to the seizure of the mobile phone and SIM card used for the threat. An FIR has been filed, and investigations are ongoing. During the search operation, which involved various officials, nine mobile phones were discovered buried in the ground. The identity of the previous accused, who was serving a sentence for a crime under section 376, remains undisclosed, although he is from Darjeeling.
