Jaipur: Ashok Gehlot, a Rajasthan Congress leader and former Chief Minister, along with several Congress MLAs, staged a protest outside the Rajasthan legislative assembly on Thursday in response to the suspension of six party MLAs.

Speaking to reporters, Gehlot stated, “The ruling party is indifferent to our protest… We haven’t received any communication from them… They are targeting Govind Singh Dotasra and trying to tarnish Congress’s image. I have been in discussions with the Chief Minister and the assembly speaker for the past three days to resolve this deadlock…”

During the protest, Leader of Opposition Tika Ram Jully mentioned, “…They are restricting our entry into the assembly because they fear we will share our views… The ruling party is behaving in a dictatorial manner… I spoke with the Parliamentary Minister and the Chief Minister, but they seem uninterested in ending this standoff… They do not want to discuss the budget.”

Rajasthan Congress chief Govind Singh Dotasra expressed that remarks made by state minister Avinash Gehlot about former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi should be removed from the assembly proceedings, and the minister should apologize. He added, “Due to the government’s authoritarian approach, we cannot enter the assembly to address public issues.”

The protest stems from a comment made by Minister Avinash Gehlot regarding Indira Gandhi, which Congress MLAs consider derogatory. While BJP leaders backed the minister, denying any offensive intent, Congress has insisted on having the comment expunged from the record. Six Congress MLAs, including Dotasra, Deputy Leader of Opposition Ramkesh Meena, Amin Kagzi, Zakir Hussain Gasavat, Hakeem Ali Khan, and Sanjay Kumar, have been suspended by Speaker Vasudev Devnani.
