An elderly couple reportedly died by suicide after jumping into a water tank at their residence in Nagaur, Rajasthan, as per police statements on Thursday. A suicide note discovered affixed to the walls of their home accused their sons, daughters-in-law, and other relatives of harassment related to property disputes.

The couple, identified as Hazariram Bishnoi (70) and his 68-year-old wife Chawali Devi, was found in the water tank within their Karni Colony home on Thursday.

Neighbors, noticing they hadn’t seen the couple for two days, expressed concern and informed their son. The son subsequently contacted local authorities, who arrived to find the tank’s lid open and the couple’s bodies submerged.

Manish Dev, the Station House Officer at Kotwali police station, reported that the bodies were retrieved and sent for autopsies.

“The autopsy for Vishnoi has been completed, while his wife’s will take place Friday morning,” PTI quoted Dev as saying.

The note allegedly left by Vishnoi indicated he was enduring harassment from his sons and family, according to the SHO. An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
