Jaipur: Rajasthan has seen a significant reduction in both daytime and nighttime temperatures over the past two days, thanks to widespread rainfall and thunderstorms across the state.
Regions that had been enduring scorching heat above 40°C witnessed temperatures drop to between 30°C and 40°C. Chittorgarh recorded the highest temperature on Sunday at 39.7°C, with Jaisalmer and Barmer close behind at 39.6°C.
Elsewhere, the weather turned cooler: Ajmer’s maximum temperature fell by 5°C to 35.8°C, and Jaipur recorded 36.7°C—lower than the usual May heat, offering much-needed relief. Kota’s temperature dropped by 5°C, Pilani’s by nearly 5°C, and many other districts experienced falls of over 2°C to 6°C below normal.
The persistent rain, strong winds, and hail since Sunday night disrupted daily life in many parts. In Pali district, powerful winds toppled containers from a train, causing damage to high-tension power lines. In Bundi, a transformer fell onto a JCB machine, and in Sadari, Pali, a rare waterfall flowed from a temple in the Aravalli hills.
Reports of hail and rainfall came from Bhilwara, Pali, Jalore, Jodhpur, and Barmer. Early morning showers and gusty winds affected several areas, and rainfall from Sunday night to Monday morning was recorded in multiple districts, including Pali, Jaisalmer, Sri Ganganagar, Bikaner, Jhalawar, and Jhunjhunu.
The first week of May delivered unexpected relief from the intense heat, with ongoing thunderstorms and rainfall since May 1. The Jaipur Meteorological Centre predicts this weather pattern may continue until May 9 or longer, with a heavy rainfall warning issued for parts of the Udaipur division from May 5 to 7.
Meanwhile, some areas like Jaipur, Bundi, Kota, Pali, and Bhilwara experienced clear skies, with temperatures remaining below 40°C over the past 24 hours.
