New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal called on the newly elected Delhi government to present the Comptroller and Auditor General’s (CAG) report and take urgent action to clean the Yamuna river. She criticized former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for betraying the anti-corruption movement, labeling it as “shameful.”
Maliwal pointed out that the CAG reports from 2016 have yet to be presented in the Vidhan Sabha, urging the government to disclose all corruption findings and implement strict measures. She expressed her concern over the deteriorating state of the Yamuna, which has become increasingly polluted over the past decade, and emphasized the need for its rejuvenation.
During the Delhi elections, Maliwal highlighted the pollution issue by collecting water from the Yamuna and protesting alongside various Purvanchali women against Kejriwal. BJP legislators, including those recently sworn in, are expected to inspect the river.
Earlier, Delhi minister Pankaj Kumar Singh assured that the council of ministers would visit the Yamuna, promising that it would be clean and beautiful by the next Chhath festival. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had previously assured on February 8 that the CAG report would be presented during the first session of the newly elected assembly.
The CAG report indicated a significant revenue loss of Rs 2,026 crore due to irregularities in the Delhi government’s excise policy, highlighting issues such as a lack of transparency, deviations from policy objectives, and unpunished violations in licensing.
Rekha Gupta was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi today, leading the BJP’s 48 MLAs, while the AAP remains the main opposition party with 22 MLAs.
