MP Sanjeev Arora tenders resignation from Rajya Sabha after Ludhiana Bypoll victory

MP Sanjeev Arora has officially resigned from the Rajya Sabha after his recent victory in the Ludhiana West Assembly by-election. Arora met Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar in person at the Vice President’s residence in New Delhi and handed over his resignation to him.

He cited constitutional provisions that prohibit simultaneous membership in both Parliament and a state legislature after 14 days of the gazette notification of June 24, 2025 regarding the election results.

Arora, who served in the Upper House for nearly three years, expressed his deep gratitude to the people of Punjab, fellow MPs and the Rajya Sabha Chairman for their support and cooperation during his tenure.

Arora won the by-election held on June 19

Arora said in his resignation letter – It is an honour and privilege for me to serve as a member of the Rajya Sabha and contribute to the legislative process at the national level. He said that he heartily thanked the Chairman, fellow members and the people of Punjab for the trust and support shown towards him.

Arora won the Ludhiana West bypoll on June 19 by a margin of 10,637 votes, which was held following the untimely demise of the sitting MLA. Arora got 43.34% more votes than his immediate rival Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu.
