Satara: Judge arrested by ACB for seeking bribe of Rs 5 Lakh to grant bail

The judge had demanded a bribe to grant bail to the complainant's father. This incident is said to have happened on the court premises.

Satara: The Anti-Corruption Department in Satara district of Maharashtra arrested the judge red-handed in a bribery case. District and Sessions Judge Dhananjay Nikam and three others were arrested in a bribery case of Rs 5 lakh. The judge had demanded a bribe to grant bail to the complainant’s father. This incident is said to have happened on the court premises.

The police laid a trap in a hotel in Satara and caught Judge Nikam red-handed. After this, a case has been registered and further proceedings are going on. At the same time, a similar incident took place in Rajasthan in which the Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested a sub-divisional magistrate in Jhunjhunu on Tuesday when he was allegedly taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh and an expensive dinner set.

Rajasthan Administrative Service officer Banshidhar Yogi had demanded a bribe from the complainant in exchange for the court’s decision in his favor in a land dispute case. Yogi first demanded 20 bighas of land in his name. When the complainant said that he could not give so much in bribe, the accused started harassing him by demanding Rs 5 lakh. A senior officer said that Yogi had taken a bribe of Rs 1 lakh at the time of verification.
