Security forces in Manipur arrest militant cadres, arms and ammunition seized

Imphal: Following coordinated intelligence-driven operations, Assam Rifles and Manipur Police successfully apprehended five individuals and seized various weapons in the districts of Kangpokpi, Imphal West, and Bishnupur.

The operation was initiated based on specific intelligence regarding arms and ammunition located near Tingkhai Khullen village, about 12 km south of Kotlen in Kangpokpi district. The forces recovered an automatic rifle, a .32 mm pistol, a .22 mm pistol, four single-barrel rifles, a mortar, ammunition, and other military supplies.

On February 18, the police also arrested a supporter of the KCP (PWG), identified as Romeo Laishram from Yurembam Awang Leikai in Imphal West District. During the arrest, a 7.65 mm pistol with a magazine containing five rounds, a box with ten 7.65 mm cartridges, a pistol holster, and an Aadhaar Card were confiscated.

Additionally, Naorem Premkanta Singh, a 43-year-old active member of KCP (PWG), was arrested in the Irum Mapal area of Kakching District for engaging in extortion. He was found with a mobile phone and an Airtel SIM.

Another active cadre from the PREPAK(PRO) group, Thokchom Sanathoi Singh, was detained near the Mahindra Showroom on Tiddim Road in Bishnupur District, where a mobile phone was recovered.

Salam Sitoljit Singh, also affiliated with PREPAK(PRO), was arrested in Uripok Khumanthem Leikai under Imphal District for similar extortion activities, with a mobile device taken from him.

Manipur Police arrested Waikhom Ibungo Meitei, a member of the RPF/PLA, from Hatta Golapati close to a public hospital in Imphal East. He is suspected of directly extorting money from the public and government officials, with the seizure of a two-wheeler and two mobile phones during the arrest.

Earlier, on February 17, Thokchom Ajit Singh of PLA was apprehended in the Leimaram Canal area of Bishnupur District, where police confiscated a mobile phone with a Jio SIM.

Search and area domination operations by security forces continue in the sensitive hill and valley districts, ensuring the secure movement of vehicles carrying essential goods along NH-2 and NH-37. Enhanced security measures have been implemented at vulnerable points, and protective convoys are provided in critical areas to facilitate safe transportation.
