Jaipur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that heat waves, intense heat waves, and warm night conditions are likely to persist for the next 2-3 days, especially in parts of western and northern Rajasthan. The highest temperature recorded in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan, recently reached 47.8°C.

Radhey Shyam Sharma, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Jaipur, told ANI that over the past 24 hours, temperatures have risen by 1-2°C in many regions of the state. He warned that these extreme heat conditions would continue in western and northern Rajasthan for the coming days. However, he mentioned that after 24 to 48 hours, pre-monsoon activities are expected to commence in some parts of the state. Monsoon activity has already intensified over the past two days, and conditions are favorable for its progression into parts of eastern and central India, including Rajasthan. Between June 15 and onward, a slight decrease of 2-4°C in temperatures is anticipated in some areas of East Rajasthan.

The IMD also indicated that, from June 14, there may be some relief from the intense heat in northwest India, with a gradual decline in heatwave conditions. Severe heatwaves have been reported in parts of West Rajasthan, with some areas experiencing extreme temperatures. Similar conditions are prevailing in regions of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and select pockets of East Rajasthan, South Uttar Pradesh, and Northwest Madhya Pradesh.

Forecasts suggest little change in maximum temperatures across northwest and central India over the next three days, with a predicted decrease of 2-4°C afterward. On Tuesday, Sharma noted that western Rajasthan, particularly Ganganagar, Hanumangarh, and Bikaner, has been experiencing a severe heatwave with temperatures exceeding 47°C, expected to persist for three to four days.

He added that strong south-west winds carrying dust will continue to prevail in the region for a few days. Additionally, eastern Rajasthan may see thunderstorms around June 15-16, offering some relief from the heat, with potential temperature drops around June 18-20 due to these storms.

On June 10, Sri Ganganagar and Hanumangarh issued orange alerts, while other districts such as Bikaner, Churu, Jhunjhunu, Alwar, Bharatpur, Karauli, and Dholpur issued yellow warnings.
