Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has enacted the New Shops and Establishments Act to enhance trade and create new job opportunities. Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai announced that traders can now operate their shops every day of the week, around the clock. This initiative is expected to not only benefit business owners but also bolster the state’s economy.

Previously, shops were mandated to close one day each week, but the new regulations allow traders to choose their operating hours. Importantly, the government has also prioritized employee rights; every worker is entitled to a weekly day off, and no one can work more than eight hours a day. Furthermore, shop owners must comply with labor welfare schemes to protect workers’ rights.

The new rules streamline the registration process for shops, requiring existing businesses to secure a Labor Identification Number (LIN) within six months at no additional cost. However, late applications will incur a fee as per existing regulations.

The government believes this decision will enhance the ease of doing business and provide significant advantages to small traders. With increased flexibility in shop operations, business activities are expected to flourish, leading to higher state revenues. It is important to note that these rules do not apply to liquor shops.

Commerce and Industry Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan praised CM Sai’s decision, stating, “The Chief Minister’s government has made a significant move. With shops open 24 hours in Chhattisgarh, residents will greatly benefit, especially small and medium businesses.” He emphasized that this initiative will create jobs and drive development in the state, transforming cities and districts into metropolitan areas and accelerating the pace of progress, which has generated excitement among business owners.
