Jaipur: At least six people were killed when a heavy trailer truck carrying ash overturned and fell on a car in the Deshnok police station area of Bikaner, Rajasthan, late Wednesday night, officials reported on Thursday.
The incident occurred when the car, traveling from Bikaner to Nokha, was overtaken by the trailer truck, which was heading in the opposite direction. The truck lost control and fell on the car, crushing it entirely. Emergency responders, including local police, faced difficulties in rescuing the victims, and three JCBs were called to lift the truck. The injured were rushed to the trauma center, with some being transported in ambulances and private vehicles.
The accident took place on a bridge over a railway crossing near Karni Mandir. The car was trapped under the truck for about half an hour before the JCBs were able to remove the vehicle and rescue the victims. Four injured passengers were taken to Deshnok Community Health Center, while two others were transported to PBM Hospital in Bikaner, where they were declared dead.
The deceased were all members of the same family and were identified as Ashok (45), Moolchand (45), Pappuram (55), Shyamsundar (60), Dwarkaprasad (45), and Karniram (50). Moolchand and Pappuram, as well as Shyamsundar and Dwarkaprasad, were brothers. The family had been returning to Nokha after attending a function in Bikaner.
Senior police officials, including the IG and SP, arrived at the scene to oversee the rescue efforts and investigation. The community is in shock over the tragic accident, and authorities are urging greater caution on highways to prevent similar incidents.
