New Delhi: Sonia Gandhi’s health is currently stable, and she is under close medical supervision, according to a statement from Delhi’s Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. The 78-year-old Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson was admitted late Sunday evening due to stomach-related issues and is being monitored in the Gastroenterology department.

Dr. Ajay Swaroop, the hospital’s chairman, confirmed that Sonia Gandhi was admitted at 9:00 PM on June 15 under the Department of Surgical Gastroenterology. He assured that she remains stable and is receiving attentive care from medical professionals.

This marks her second hospitalization this month. Previously, on June 7, she was taken to Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Hospital in Shimla after she experienced restlessness. At IGMC, doctors found her blood pressure to be slightly elevated but otherwise stable, and her visit was described as a routine check-up for minor health concerns. Naresh Chauhan, advisor to Himachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, mentioned that Sonia Gandhi’s health issues led CM Sukhu to cut short his visit to Una and proceed to Shimla.

Earlier in February, Sonia Gandhi was hospitalized in Delhi for stomach problems during a brief stay at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital, where she was treated by a gastroenterologist. In September 2022, she traveled to the US for a medical check-up that was postponed due to the pandemic, which caused her to miss part of the Monsoon Session of Parliament. During that trip, she was accompanied by her son Rahul Gandhi and made significant organizational changes within the Congress Party. Her visit to the US was publicly announced by Congress leader Randeep Surjewala, who expressed gratitude for the concerns and good wishes from supporters.
