Rajgir: PM Narendra Modi inaugurated the new campus of Nalanda University built at a cost of Rs 1749 crore on Wednesday. He addressed the program for 21 minutes. The Prime Minister said that I have got the opportunity to visit Nalanda in the first 10 days after taking oath for the third term. PM Modi called it as an auspicious sign of India’s development journey.
PM Modi in his address said, “Nalanda is not just a name. Nalanda is an identity, an honor. Nalanda is a value, a mantra, a pride, a saga. Nalanda is the proclamation of the truth that books may burn in the flames of fire, but the flames of fire cannot erase knowledge.”
In the program, CM Nitish Kumar also addressed and thanked Modi government for the inauguration of University. He said that the old government did not listen. He said that he had requested for the university many times.
Before this, the Prime Minister visited the ruins of the 1600-year-old ancient Nalanda University for about 15 minutes. The Prime Minister reached the ruins at 10.03 am. He left from there at 10.24 am.
After this, the Prime Minister dedicated the new form of Nalanda University to the country. The Prime Minister also planted a tree in the university campus. Representatives from 17 countries are participating in the program.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the new campus of Nalanda University at Bihar’s Rajgir on Wednesday. According to a PMO release, the Prime Minister will visit the Ruins of Nalanda at around 9.45 am. The ruins of Nalanda were declared a UN Heritage Site in 2016.
At around 10.30 am, he will inaugurate the Nalanda new campus. The Prime Minister will also address the gathering on occasion. The inauguration ceremony will be attended by several eminent people, including the heads of missions from 17 countries.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi took the time to talk to X and share information. Calling it as a special day in the education sector, PM Modi said, “It’s a very special day for our education sector. At around 10:30 AM today, the new campus of the Nalanda University would be inaugurated at Rajgir. Nalanda has a strong connect with our glorious past. This university will surely go a long way in catering to the educational needs of the youth.”
About the new Nalanda University
The campus has two academic blocks with 40 classrooms, with a total seating capacity of around 1900. It has two auditoriums with a capacity of 300 seats each. It has a student hostel with a capacity of around 550 students. It also has various other facilities, including an international center, an amphitheatre that can accommodate up to 2000 individuals, a faculty club, and a sports complex, among others.
The Campus is a ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus. It is self-sustaining with solar plants, domestic and drinking water treatment plants, a water recycling plant for reusing wastewater, 100 acres of water bodies, and many other environment-friendly facilities.
The university is conceived as a collaboration between India and East Asia Summit (EAS) countries. It has a deep connection with history. The original Nalanda University, established around 1600 years ago, is considered to be among the first residential universities in the world
