CBI has also got permission to produce Kejriwal in the trial court. Kejriwal will be produced in court today i.e. on June 26. According to CBI sources, he is likely to be officially arrested during his court appearance. The reaction of CBI came a day before hearing in Supreme Court. Supreme Court will today hear the matter of stay on Arvind Kejriwal’s release by Delhi High Court.
Media reports late on Tuesday (June 25) claimed that CBI has arrested Kejriwal. However, it was later learned that the investigating agency only questioned him and returned from Tihar.
CBI and ED cases in Delhi Excise Policy Case
CBI and ED had registered cases in August 2022 regarding alleged irregularities in the Delhi liquor policy case. ED arrested Kejriwal from his house on March 21 in the liquor policy case. He was sent to Tihar on April 1. On June 25, Kejriwal completed 87 days in Tihar.
On May 10, the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal interim bail for 21 days to campaign in the Lok Sabha elections. Kejriwal came out of jail on the same day. After campaigning till June 1, he surrendered in Tihar at 5 pm on June 2. Currently, he is in judicial custody till July 3.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) alleges that before the hearing on Kejriwal’s bail in the Supreme Court on June 26, the central government is conspiring with the CBI to get him arrested in another case. On May 20, trial court granted bail to Arvind Kejriwal but later next day on intervention of ED, Delhi High Court stayed the release of Delhi CM.
