Tiruvalluvarandu: In Tiruvalluvarandu, Tamil Nadu, the District Collector, AP Mahabharathi, has been transferred following his controversial comments regarding a sexual assault case involving a three-year-old girl, where he suggested the victim was to blame for provoking the offender. HS Srikanth, the Commissioner of Erode Corporation, has been appointed as his replacement.
In a separate legal development, the Tis Hazari court in Delhi sentenced a man to death for the rape and murder of a seven-year-old girl in Nihal Vihar in 2019, deeming it a “rarest of rare” case. Rajender, also known as Satish, will face the death penalty, subject to confirmation by the High Court of Delhi, while his father, Ramsaran, received a life sentence for his involvement.
Special judge Babita Puniya emphasized the need for strict punishment, stating that any leniency would undermine the court’s responsibility towards the victim and society. The judge highlighted that the father’s failure to reprimand his son for his initial wrongdoing contributed to the tragic outcome. The father-son duo was convicted on February 24, 2025, with various legal representatives involved in the case.
