Jammu: A terrorist was eliminated in a joint operation conducted against militants in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kishtwar district on Friday, according to officials.
The operation, which involved the Indian Army and various security forces, started on April 9 in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar. “This operation was initiated based on specific intelligence inputs, leading to a confrontation with terrorists that resulted in one terrorist being neutralized. The search efforts, aimed at flushing out militants hiding in the dense forests, are ongoing,” an official reported.
Additionally, another operation is currently underway in the Joffar forest area under the jurisdiction of Ramnagar police station in Udhampur district. A Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) was initiated on April 9, with reports indicating that three terrorists are trapped within the cordoned area.
A local civilian, identified as Rachpal, informed security forces that three armed terrorists wearing black entered his house around 8:30 p.m. on April 9 and left approximately three hours later. Following this disclosure, security forces strengthened their cordon and summoned reinforcements as they closed in on the hiding terrorists, according to the latest updates.
On March 3, police quickly responded to Sanyal village in the Hiranagar area of Kathua district, where five terrorists were sighted. Given the proximity of Sanyal village, located merely 4 kilometers from the international border, these terrorists are believed to have recently infiltrated into India. They managed to flee from Sanyal to the Safiyun Jakhole area. In the ensuing gunfight, two terrorists were killed, but four police personnel lost their lives. To track down the remaining three terrorists, joint forces initiated a ‘seek and destroy’ operation that extended to higher elevations in Kathua and Rajouri districts.
A brief exchange of gunfire occurred between the terrorists and joint forces in the Billawar area of Kathua district.
On April 8, Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a high-level security review meeting in Srinagar, which included discussions with the J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Union Home Secretary, the IB chief, the army chief, the Northern Commander, GOCs of all corps in J&K, as well as leaders from paramilitary forces and intelligence agencies.
During the meeting, the Home Minister commended the joint forces for their role in combating terrorism while issuing directives for the complete eradication of terrorism from J&K, with a particular emphasis on the Jammu division of the union territory.
