Tesla models in India at present

At present, Tesla is selling only Model Y in India, which is considered a popular and affordable model of the company. However, in the future, Tesla can also introduce its other models like Model 3, Model S and Cybertruck in the Indian market. The EV sector in India is changing rapidly and Tesla’s presence is considered a big step in this direction.

Tesla showrooms and service network

Tesla has opened its first showroom in India in Mumbai, and the next showroom is expected to open in Delhi soon. At present, Tesla is focusing only on these two cities and no clear information has been given about expansion in other cities.

Impact of Tesla’s arrival in India on the auto market

India is the third largest auto market in the world and the demand for electric vehicles is increasing continuously here. The government is also running many schemes to promote EV. In such a situation, the arrival of Tesla can bring a new revolution in this sector. However, the price of Tesla’s vehicles can be a challenge for Indian customers, mainly due to the heavy import duty imposed in the country.

Tesla’s competition in India

Tesla will have to compete with many big companies in India. Tata Motors, which has more than 60% share in India’s EV market, will give direct competition to Tesla with cars like its Nexon EV. Mahindra & Mahindra is in competition with its new cars like BE6 and XEV 9e. MG Motors’ Windsor and Cybuster models can also challenge Tesla. Apart from this, premium EV models of companies like BYD, Hyundai, BMW, Audi and Mercedes will also give tough competition to Tesla in India. While Tesla’s technology and brand value are its strengths, on the other hand, affordable prices and strong network of local companies will challenge it.

Showroom rent is around ₹35 lakh per month

The company recently signed a 5-year lease for 4,000 square feet of retail space in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex. This place is close to Apple’s flagship store in the city. According to reports, its rent is around Rs 35 lakh per month, which is one of the most expensive commercial rents in India. This showroom will display Tesla’s premium electric vehicles. Customers will also get a chance to test drive them here.

Model Y is the world’s best selling electric car

The company’s Model Y is the world’s best-selling electric car. Indian customers may also like it. It is a compact SUV, which is based on the Model 3. It has the option of 5-7 seats.

Its range is around 330-480 km, which depends on the battery variant. Autopilot and full self-driving options may be available in it. The company is facing a decline in sales in Europe and China, so India can prove to be a big opportunity for them.
