Patna: RJD leader Sanjay Yadav criticized the central government following the stampede at New Delhi Railway Station, which resulted in multiple fatalities. He accused the “double-engine government” of focusing solely on self-promotion instead of ensuring safety. Yadav questioned the lack of preventive measures considering the station’s capacity, highlighting the failure of the Uttar Pradesh government to take responsibility for a similar incident in Prayagraj.

He raised concerns about the government’s management and response to the ongoing issue of stampedes. “What actions is the administration taking to prevent such tragedies? Why are these incidents becoming commonplace, and why is there silence from the government?” he lamented.

Yadav also called for the government to provide support to the victims’ families, demanding Rs 5 lakh in compensation and assistance with employment. Earlier, Congress MP K C Venugopal echoed these sentiments, criticizing the central government’s incompetence in managing the situation while only excelling in public relations.

In a statement on X, he described the stampede as tragic and voiced concern about the lack of information regarding the exact number of casualties. He questioned why crowd control measures were inadequate and why special trains weren’t arranged, especially considering the anticipated influx of devotees for the Maha Kumbh 2025 festival. The stampede occurred on February 15 at 10 pm when thousands of pilgrims were traveling to Prayagraj, leading to severe overcrowding at the railway station.
