New Delhi: The Ministry of Railways has transferred three senior officials from the Delhi division, following the tragic stampede at New Delhi Railway Station on February 15, which claimed 18 lives. According to the official order, Sukhwinder Singh, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Delhi, Northern Railway, has been replaced by Pushpesh R Tripathi. Additionally, Station Director Mahesh Yadav and Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Anand Mohan have also been transferred.

The stampede occurred around 10 pm when thousands of devotees traveling to the Mahakumbh in Prayagraj flooded the station, causing severe overcrowding. This led to chaos and panic, ultimately resulting in the fatal stampede.

In response to the tragedy, Indian Railways announced compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh for those seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Railways plans to create permanent holding areas at approximately 60 high-congestion stations across the country to better manage crowd control. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to improve passenger flow and reduce overcrowding at busy stations. The ministry will also implement advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), for real-time crowd monitoring, crisis management, and predicting peak hours, in an effort to prevent future incidents like this one.
