New Delhi: On Monday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah presented a bill in the Lok Sabha to designate the Institute of Rural Management Anand as a university, named “Tribhuvan” Sahkari University. This bill aims to establish it as an institution of national significance, with a focus on technical and management education within the cooperative sector. The key objectives include promoting cooperative research and development, achieving global excellence, and reinforcing the cooperative movement in India, aligning with the government’s vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation).

Simultaneously, the Lok Sabha Secretary General submitted two bills that have been approved by both Houses of Parliament during the Third Session of the Eighteenth Lok Sabha and have received the President’s assent.

However, the united opposition disrupted proceedings in both Houses on that day while demanding an immediate discussion regarding the Maha Kumbh Stampede, which resulted in the deaths of 30 individuals. Congress leader Manickam Tagore stated, “The opposition is calling for a conversation about the Maha Kumbh tragedy and insists on a government response. As this wasn’t permitted, we continue to voice our concerns.” RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha emphasized the need for accountability, stating that the nation is mourning the loss of lives and that such matters must be addressed in the House.

The opposition staged a brief walkout in the Upper House demanding the release of the list of deceased victims. “We walked out for an hour and plan to return to raise this issue again. We are receiving calls from grieving individuals who cannot reach their families. We want to know why the names of the 30 deceased have not been made public,” Congress MP Pramod Tiwari remarked. Additionally, Samajwadi Party MP Ram Gopal Yadav criticized the state government for mismanagement, referencing eyewitness accounts that suggested a higher death toll. He pointed out that families are struggling to obtain information about their loved ones, as no action has been taken against officials involved.
