Two killed, six hurt in Bengal as vehicle going to Maha Kumbh collides with truck on NH19

The incident occurred when a passenger vehicle, en route to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, collided with a truck on National Highway 19.

According to Jabed Hossain, Assistant Commissioner of Police for the Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate, the passenger vehicle, which was traveling from Bankura, crashed into the truck at high speed from behind. The police are currently investigating the situation.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck abruptly stopped to change lanes, leading to the rear-end collision with the passenger vehicle. The impact was severe, leaving the passenger vehicle completely wrecked.

Authorities have confiscated both the passenger vehicle and the truck, but the truck driver and his assistant are currently unaccounted for. The deceased have been identified as Shantanu Mukhopadhyay (65) and Sailen Bandopadhyay (60), and their bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination.

The injured passengers, who are all related, include Sourav Mukhopadhyay, Manasha Mukhopadhyay, Ananya Mukhopadhyay, Rumpa Bandopadhyay, Siluli Karmakar, and Somnath Chakraborty, who was driving at the time of the accident. They have been admitted to a local hospital for treatment, with Siluli Karmakar reported to be in critical condition.
