Hyderabad: On December 29, two police officers in Telangana tragically died by suicide in separate incidents. In Medak district, a head constable named Sai Kumar was found hanging from a tree at the Kulcharam police station. He had departed from home for a morning walk and took this drastic action shortly after arriving at the station. Investigators noted that he spoke to his daughter over the phone before the incident, but the reasons for his actions remain unclear. Family members reported that Sai Kumar had previously expressed suicidal thoughts, and Rural Circle Inspector Rajasekhar Reddy suggested that domestic issues might have contributed to his decision.

In a different case in Siddipet district, a constable named Balakrishna from the 17th Battalion also took his life by hanging. Before that, he had mixed pesticides into the food of his wife and two children at their home. His family, including his wife Manasa and sons Ashwant and Ashwin, was hospitalized but is currently reported to be stable. Early police investigations indicate that financial difficulties may have led to this tragic event, as Balakrishna had borrowed money from friends to purchase a house and was experiencing pressure from lenders to repay his debts.

The trend of police suicides in the state has been alarming, with reports of similar cases in the past. Just last week, a Sub-Inspector and a woman constable, along with a computer operator from a cooperative society, were found dead in a lake in the Kamareddy district. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding these fatalities, including those of Sai Kumar, a Sub-Inspector at the Bhiknur police station, Shruti from Bibiet Police Station, and Nikhil, the computer operator.
