New Delhi: Two children tragically lost their lives, and another person was injured after an LPG cylinder exploded in the Manohar Park area of Delhi.
The incident occurred near the Ashok Park Metro Station in Wazirpur around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday. After receiving the emergency call, two fire engines were dispatched to the scene. The fire brigade managed to bring the blaze under control, but three individuals suffered serious burns.
The injured were promptly taken to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, where doctors confirmed the deaths of 12-year-old Sakshi and her 9-year-old brother Akash.
Their mother, Savita, reported that while she was cooking, clothes near the kitchen ignited. At the time, her son and two daughters were in the room. While Savita and one of her daughters, Meenakshi, managed to escape, Sakshi and Akash were caught in the fire.
When Savita called for assistance, the landlord’s son and other tenants rushed in to rescue the children, but both suffered severe burns. They were later taken to Acharya Bhikshu Hospital in Moti Nagar, where they were pronounced dead due to 100% burns.
The third victim, identified as Sandeep Pathak, sustained 5% burns and is currently receiving treatment.
According to police reports, the fire was triggered by an explosion of an LPG cylinder stored inside the house. Authorities are investigating the precise cause of the incident.
In a separate event on the same night, a fire broke out at Makkar Multi-Specialty Hospital in Laxmi Nagar. The blaze affected beds and window air conditioning units on the ground floor of the three-story facility but was quickly controlled by four fire tenders that arrived at the scene.
